The {Link: www.csme-scgm.ca, Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering} (CSME) was founded in 1970 in order to form a single organization "with a clear national identity" for Canadian mechanical engineers.

Student membership costs only $20 per year for membership in CSME and $20 per year for a lounge membership; members receive access a lounge, access to an archive of old exams and tests, and a subscription to the CSME newsletter. There are also opportunities to take part in various CSME student competitions and reduced registration fees to CSME professional conferences and seminars for student members.
