Engineering Orientation (EngO) is the first step of Direct Engineering students' career at the University of Manitoba. It is a two-day event run during the same time as regular University 1 Orientation. The University of Manitoba Engineering Society organizes the event in order to ease the transition from high school. EngO is a long-standing tradition at the University of Manitoba and gets new students involved in the engineering culture.
During EngO, new students can expect a combination of presentations and fun activities, with each introducing new students to many of the interesting aspects of an engineering student at the University of Manitoba. Some of the events that new students can expect to see are the information sessions, campus tours, a barbeque, the group photo shoot, evening activities, and a design competition. The design competition pits each group against each other as they try to design and build an innovative solution to a challenging problem and introduces students to the type of projects and problems they can expect to see during their stay at the University of Manitoba.
EngO is different than the regular University 1 Orientation because it is focused towards engineering students. Since all Direct Entrance students take the same classes, this will introduce them to their peers in first year as well as life as an engineering student.
