UMEC

The University of Manitoba Engineering Competititon (UMEC) is an engineering competition run by UMES. All engineering student currently enrolled at the U of M are invited to participate.

UMEC serves as the qualifier for the regional competition, Western Engineering Competition (WEC). The winning teams from UMEC will be sponsored by UMES to attend WEC, which is held annually in the last week of January. This year, WEC will be held in Victoria from January 26th to 30th. Even if you don't qualify through UMEC, or if you're interested in one of the competitions we don't have at UMEC, participation in WEC is still possible. A detailed description of WEC and the competitions that is holds is listed below.
Please forward all questions to the Vice Stick External.

There are three events in which you may participate:

Junior Design Team

Teams of four are given a problem and a limited amount of time to design and build a solution for this problem. The solutions will be presented informally at the competition's close. The Junior Team Design is open to first and second year students.

Senior Design Team

Teams of four are given a problem (more difficult than the Junior Team Design) and a limited amount of time to design and build a solution. At the competition's close, the teams will be expected to give a brief presentation of their design, providing rationale for their design choices. The Senior Design competition is open to third and fourth year students.

Debate

Teams of two participate in a fast-paced, high energy debate on a topic disclosed immediately preceding the event. Competitors are judged on their ability to present convincing, well-constructed arguments on a wide range of topics, with minimal preparation time.
